Welcome! We have a photoshoot coming up!

I’m Stephanie, your photographer in Japan. I’ve been living here for over nine years, and I love capturing families in a natural, relaxed way.

My approach is easygoing and stress free, allowing you to simply be yourselves while I document genuine moments and real emotions.

This guide is here to help you prepare and know what to expect from your session. Let’s dive in.

What to expect?

I love capturing families in a way that feels real, full of emotion, and completely authentic. During our session, I’ll guide you gently with prompts that encourage movement, laughter, and connection so you can be present with each other and your kid/kids instead of thinking about the camera. Whether it’s walking holding your kid, sharing a silly song, or just being yourselves, I aim to create images that tell your story naturally at the location we are at.

weather

Soft overcast skies, a bit of morning mist, or golden hour light are always beautiful, but sometimes we get sun, rain, or a schedule that doesn’t match the perfect light.

Location

In the city, we work with the energy around us, navigating crowds and using streets creatively. Temples and shrines call for a bit more care with dress and noise, while gardens and parks give us freedom to move, play, and incorporate seasonal flowers.

Sumida + Asakusa

A unique mix of modern city energy and nostalgic charm. With the Sumida River, the Skytree, the Sensoji Temple and the quaint Edo Period shops.

Outfit + Color Guide

Spring/Summer

Soft, breathable tones photograph beautifully in the season’s natural light.

Think whites, creams, soft pastels, sage, dusty blue, and warm neutrals colors that feel fresh and airy.

Coordinating as a family works best when everyone complements rather than matches exactly, a little variety in texture and tone adds visual warmth and keeps things feeling natural.

I recommend avoiding bold logos and very bright colors so the focus stays on your connection and the moments between you.

Since Spring days can still carry a morning chill and Summer can bring surprising heat, dress in light layers you can easily add or remove throughout the session. Comfort goes a long way in helping everyone.

What to expect upon arrival?

  1. We’ll meet at the agreed meeting spot.
  2. We’ll take a few minutes to chat and get to know each other, especially important for helping kids feel comfortable.
  3. I’ll give a few simple, gentle instructions and we’ll begin the shoot.
  4. We’ll move through a few nearby photo spots, stopping to capture different moments, angles, and compositions.Breaks are always welcome whenever you or your children need them.
  5. The session is relaxed and flexible, focused on natural moments and genuine connection.

How to move and connect during your session?

  • Stay close to each other. Holding hands, hugging, or sitting close creates natural connection.

  • Keep moving. Walking, playing, or gently swaying helps everyone relax and keeps moments feeling easy.

  • Interact, don’t pose. Talk to each other, laugh, whisper, or focus on your kids instead of the camera.

  • Follow your children’s lead. Let them explore or take the spotlight for a moment. Those in-between moments are often the most meaningful.

  • Trust gentle guidance. I’ll offer simple prompts when needed, so you never have to worry about what to do next.

  • Smiles. For natural smiles be playful and for traditional portraits looking at the camera, parents focus on the camera and I’ll call the kids names to ensure everyone is looking.

If I get quiet, don’t worry I might be documenting a special moment or changing my angles. Remember you are doing great.

Final note

Your photoshoot is meant to be a relaxed and enjoyable experience. There’s no need to aim for perfection. Come as you are, focus on being together, and trust the process. I’ll take care of the rest while capturing natural moments and genuine connections you’ll be able to look back on for years to come.

I'll see you soon!
